PRN Nurse
The PRN Nurse is responsible for providing skilled nursing care on an as-needed basis outside of regular business hours. This role involves responding to patient calls, assessing healthcare needs, and delivering appropriate interventions in a timely and compassionate manner. The PRN Nurse collaborates with healthcare teams to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
- Respond promptly to patient calls and assess healthcare needs over the phone or in person;
- Provide skilled nursing care, including wound care, medication administration, and symptom management;
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to develop and implement care plans tailored to individual patient needs;
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers to ensure understanding of care instructions and treatment plans;
- Monitor patient progress and response to interventions, documenting findings and reporting to healthcare providers as necessary;
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols;
- Coordinate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians and pharmacists, to facilitate continuity of care;
- Educate patients and caregivers on self-care techniques and symptom management strategies;
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient encounters and interventions;
- Adhere to all legal and ethical standards of nursing practice;
- Other duties may be assigned as need by management;
- Current registered nurse (RN) licensure;
- Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience, preferably in an acute care or home healthcare setting;
- Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to make rapid and accurate decisions;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, particularly in high-pressure situations;
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively;
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed;
- Proficiency in using medical equipment and electronic health records (EHR) systems;
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times;
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred;
- Current CPR certification required;
- Additional certifications in infusion therapy or related areas beneficial;
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard;
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work;
- Light to moderate lifting may be required;
- Moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic);
- Ability to work in a confined area;
- Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
